Happy March, everyone!

Before we know it we will be open for play! Please watch your email for updates for opening day information, as weather and water will determine when we can open.

I start this newsletter with some sad news. Joe Slawiak, one of our Dubois members, passed away at the way-too-young age of 34 last week. Joe was an avid golfer and loved all sports. The last time he and I texted, he was boarding a bus for a jr. high basketball game, which he helped coach. That was December 20th. Joe had battled cancer for several years and last week it finally got the better of him. He will be greatly missed. He loved the Saltwater and the subsequent 2-man Memorial Day tournament, and we will do something to honor Joe this year at that tournament.

As we all know, it’s been a dry and warm winter. I don’t say this often, if ever, but pray for snow!!

I want to welcome Dave Befus as the new course superintendent. Dave brings a wealth of experience to the head super job, he’s been with us for many years now, and he has a lot of great ideas to improve the condition of our course!

I also want to thank Danielle and her staff for an outstanding job this winter. Danielle had the foresight to see that opening on Wednesdays might be profitable this winter and she was spot on! If you haven’t eaten at the club in a while, make sure to do so in the near future. You don’t want to miss the great stuff they have going on in there!

Production and shipping problems still hamper the golf business as bad, if not worse, than most, but it’s definitely better than it was. I would ask that you be patient with us again this year, we will do the best we can and try to do a better job of updating you on the status of any orders.

In closing, I want to say that as I enter my 5th summer as your head professional and my second year as your general manager, that I am thrilled and honored to be able to keep working with the great membership we have at Riverton Country Club.

As you know, we sort of have the best of both worlds in that we have a great golf course and almost never have to wait for a tee time. That being said, because of our still relatively low numbers, we run on a very tight budget and we need our tournaments to survive. The board and I want to thank you for your patience in this area as well, and again this year, I will do everything I can to accommodate member play with the tournaments.

Try to support the tournaments you can as they almost all have a great cause behind them and as stated, you’re not only helping the cause but helping the course.

Thank you so much for being a member at RCC. And if you enjoy it here, tell a friend! Or two!!

The tournament schedule should be on the website soon, and information for opening day will be in your email and on the website as it becomes available.
